I am very happy to see a post on dog wheelchairs because they can be life changers for dogs and owners alike. We have done quite a bit of research on the various models out there and used some of your same criteria in making our selection as to which dog wheelchair we wanted to offer to Canadian dog owners. A lot of the models out there are very bulky and finding a lightweight frame that was both
comfortable and durable was key. I can tell you from first hand experience how dog wheelchairs can give life back to so many dogs. They can work with dogs with partial use of their rear legs, but are also ideal for dogs with rear legs that are paralyzed. There are also models that work with dogs with front leg problems. What I love about these is that they allow your dog to start going on walks again and let’s them once again enjoy the things they used to have so much fun doing. I have even seen dogs using these wheelchairs to chase sticks in a lake – it is amazing.
For owners of senior, injured or disabled dogs these best thing you can do when looking for a mobility solution is to do some research. Information is key and I encourage you to speak with your vet as well because there are solutions out there that can dramatically improve the quality of life for you and your dog – you just need to find what is right for
yours.

I’ve used the Walkin’ Wheels or Handicapped Pets. It’s lightweight, adjustable and extremely easy to order.
