If you have ever considered building a ramp for wheelchairs, here is a simple set of plans drawn up by a competitor in one of the last James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation School / Store Prize programs. Therefore, gather their materials, practice their knowledge of welding and jump!
A ramp is needed to help students with physical disabilities, participating in a program of therapeutic horseback. The ramp would provide a way for a person confined to a wheelchair for mounting a horse while the horse is standing. The ramp would provide a way for a person confined to a wheelchair for mounting a horse while the horse is standing. The ramp would save the university needs a lot of time and money, because horses do not have to be specially trained to lie down while also being mounted.
The structure consists of a 16 ‘x 5′ ramp, and a 5 ‘x 5′ platform that can be connected by small locks on each side. The ramp was built in two parts to make it easier to move. Both the ramp and the turntable are locking wheels so they can be rolled rather than transported. The mobility of the ramp was a necessity because the trucks unload the ramp where it is placed.
The ramp and the platform were constructed 1-1/2 “square tube with 1″ square tube straps on the floor and side railing. The floor was covered with 3 / 4 # 9 expanded metal with a 4 “kick plate 1 / 8″ steel running across the floor of the platform and ramp. The plaque was put a safety device to keep your feet and the front of the wheelchair goes under the handrails. The kick front plate was designed with a 3 / 4 “sucker rod located at the top of the same to protect horses and jockeys strong advantage, while the assembly.
The ramp measures 3 ‘in height at the front and 1 “at the rear. Then it is a small ramp of 1″ square tubes covered in expanded metal. It helps to come in wheelchairs. It doubles to allow the movement of large ramp. The handrails are 3 “high with vertical supports every 4 ‘. The vertical supports on the platform of the hand rails are centered 2-1/2″.
